If you notice that your beloved pet dog has red spots on its chin lips or the rectal area then you should rush to your vet because your dog may be suffering from Puppy Acne. This form of acne is very common especially if the dog is between 3 18 months of age in the giant breeds but smaller breads may also be affected by it. In chronic cases you will see pimples along the back and rump.
The best way to treat puppy acne is not internally with an antibiotic, but by changing the external causes and altering the outside environment. Another way is to help and boost its immune system.
Normally it is treated with an antibiotic, usually Cephalexin (Keflex or CefaTabs) which can be a real problem in this breed but they can have their negative affects. The antibiotic destroys the integrity of the beneficial bacteria that grows in the gut and protects the lining of the intestines so if you have to resort to an antibiotic, you should use a probiotics twice a day on their food.
Puppy acne can flare up to become a major problem so you should see the vet As soon as possible. So that the problem could be eradicated before it flares up.
